York racecourse

Seen by many as not only the finest racecourse in the north, but in the country, York provides the best Flat racing can offer.

Fixtures are held on the famous Knavesmire from May to October, with a host of prestigious races from the Dante Stakes, through to top handicaps such as the John Smith's Cup. The now four-day Ebor Festival in August features the Juddmonte International, the Yorkshire Oaks, Nunthorpe Stakes and of course, the Ebor itself. The course, opened in 1731, is a galloping two-miles and was extended to stage longer races in 2005 when Royal Ascot was re-routed to York.
