Judicial gearing up for Palace House

Judicial is reported to be fine shape for his bid to go one better in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket next month.

Julie Camacho’s smart sprinter failed by only a neck to give subsequent Prix de l’Abbaye winner Mabs Cross 3lb in the Group Three over five furlongs last season.

Judicial did get the prize he deserved at this level on his favoured fast ground in the Coral Charge at Sandown in July – but the going was then unsuitably soft when he was fifth to Mr Lupton on his final start of 2018.

“He’s coming along nicely,” said Camacho’s husband and assistant trainer, Steve Brown.

“We’ve been pleased with his work in the spring, and he’s heading towards the Palace House – which is an obvious target for him.

“We’re exactly where we want to be with him.”

Continued fine weather will be critical to Judicial’s chances.

Brown added: “He’s the one horse we hope it stays dry for.

“There’s quite a few waiting to run – but it’s dry at the minute, and these are his perfect conditions.

“Hopefully he’ll head to Newmarket in two weeks’ time in top form.

“Logically, it’s the right place to start and it’s a realistic level for him. It will be a nice, positive starting point to his year – and we can see where we go from there.”
