Knocknanuss puts himself in Kingmaker frame

Gary Moore is considering the Kingmaker Novices’ Chase at Warwick for his impressive Newbury winner Knocknanuss.

The eight-year-old turned what had looked a competitive handicap into a procession on Friday, winning by 17 lengths after a stellar round of jumping.

With Moore fearing a rise in the weights of at least a stone, conditions races are now the only realistic options.

“I won’t know for sure where next until I speak to the handicapper, but I’m expecting a big rise,” said Moore.

“I think he’s going up 15lb, but it’s to be expected. You’d just wonder how good the race was.

“That probably rules out handicaps, so it will be conditions races now. There are options are Plumpton and Doncaster and I think the Kingmaker (February 9) might be an option.”
