Sizing John on his way to winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup

Sizing John could come back in trip to two miles at Leopardstown over Christmas.

The 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero has not been seen in racecourse action since last December – but could have a gallop after racing at Punchestown next weekend.

Trainer Jessica Harrington told At The Races on Sunday: “Kate (Harrington) rode him this morning. Very much so (shows old ability), he really does – and just might surprise you by going over two miles at Christmas.”

The eight-year-old was due to return at Navan last month, but that was delayed due to a wind procedure.

He finished well beaten in the Leopardstown Christmas Chase and was unable to defend his Cheltenham crown in March due to a fractured pelvis.
