Nicky Henderson suspects muscle issue was to blame for Terrefort eclipse

Terrefort was beaten on his return to action at Sandown

Nicky Henderson believes Terrefort suffered pulled muscles when beaten on his return to action at Sandown on Sunday.

A dual Grade One winner as a novice and second at the Cheltenham Festival, the grey was sent off a 4-6 chance to beat three classy rivals.

The first circuit went to plan for the five-year-old, but Daryl Jacob was sending out distress signals in the last mile, eventually finishing last of the four.

“There is something wrong behind. If you get into his back, he screams out as though something is sore and it looks like he has done something to his muscles down into his left hamstring,” said Henderson.

“You could tell something wasn’t right yesterday by the way his tail was.

“He has not fractured anything and is not lame on a straight line, but if you put him on a tight turn he is. We will have another a look at him and start with some physio then look again. It appears he has done no serious damage though.”

Terrefort races in the colours of Simon Munir and Isaac Souede as does We Have A Dream, who was also beaten on his return to action this weekend.

He finished third behind stablemate Verdana Blue in the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton, but Henderson was satisfied with his performance.

“He just needed it a little bit and some of ours have been needing it more than others,” said the trainer.

“He went a good gallop. Him and If The Cap Fits ran good races and had a good battle up front. Verdana Blue was probably miles the fittest horse in the race.

“We are perfectly happy with We Have A Dream. He won’t go to Newcastle (Fighting Fifth), he will probably go to Cheltenham next (International Hurdle).”
