Nicky Henderson mulling Greatwood return for Apple’s Shakira

Appleā€™s Shakira could make her seasonal debut in the Greatwood at Cheltenham

Apple’s Shakira could make her seasonal debut in the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham on November 18.

Trainer Nicky Henderson has this valuable race in mind as a starting point for the four-year-old, who was a leading juvenile hurdler last term.

Carrying the colours of owner JP McManus, Apple’s Shakira won her first three starts and was fourth in the Triumph Hurdle and third in the Doom Bar Anniversary 4-Y-O Hurdle at Aintree.

“Apple’s Shakira is in good form and the Greatwood Hurdle is a potential target,” said Henderson.

“She started last season in great form with three victories at Cheltenham. She was too keen in in the Triumph Hurdle.

“She had a good summer and came back in great shape.”

Charli Parcs, also owned by McManus, could line-up in the race too.

“Charli Parcs could go for the Greatwood. He is a talented horse and things didn’t go the right way for him last year. I think he is capable of winning a handicap hurdle,” said Henderson.

Evan Williams is debating whether to let Silver Streak run after he made a winning seasonal debut in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las last month.

“Silver Streak has come out of Ffos Las in great form,” said the Llancarfan trainer.

“He won very nicely that day and the Greatwood is something we are thinking about.”
