Promising Briery Express could have Huntingdon aim

Briery Express may head to Huntingdon

Noel Williams is considering stepping Briery Express up in class at Huntingdon next month.

The Blewbury handler has earmarked the Listed Betfred TV Henrietta Knight Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat race on December 9 as a potential target for the five-year-old, after her victory in a bumper at Aintree.

Williams said: “The plan before she won at Aintree was to go hurdling afterwards, but I did say that I would let the dust settle first.

“We might have a crack at a Listed bumper now as it would be good to get some black type into her early.

“I think the Listed race at Cheltenham might come a bit quick and I think going to Huntingdon for the Listed bumper next month might suit her better.

“She had a tough enough race at Aintree and the race at Huntingdon just sits better in the calendar.

“She did give Wayne Hutchinson a hard time early doors at Aintree, as she was keen, but he gave her a superb ride.

“It’s still not a guarantee she will go for another bumper, we still might go hurdling as she has schooled and jumped very well.”
