Equilateral leads 22 challengers for Commonwealth Cup glory

Charlie Hills

Ante-post favourite Equilateral is one of 22 declarations for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot on Friday.

Charlie Hills’ three-year-old has long been prominent in the betting for the six-furlong Group One after he hosed up at Doncaster in May.

Aidan O’Brien’s team is spearheaded by Sioux Nation, who won the Group Three Lacken Stakes at Naas on his most recent outing. The Ballydoyle handler also saddles Fleet Review and Actress.

Sands Of Mali defeated Invincible Army by a nose in a strong renewal of the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock last month and the likeable duo renew rivalry in the Commonwealth Cup.

As does the John Gosden-trained Emblazoned, who finished third that day.

Eqtidaar, Unfortunately and Heartache also feature in the Commonwealth Cup, won last year by Caravaggio.
