Sylvester Kirk makes French connection with Salouen

Salouen (far side) was just reeled in by Cracksman at Epsom

Salouen will remain in Group One company and head to France for his next start after pushing Cracksman close at Epsom.

Sylvester Kirk’s stable star nearly stole the Coronation Cup from the front under a brave Silvestre de Sousa ride.

Rather than drop down in class he will remain at the highest level.

“He is jumping out of his skin and I can’t keep a lid on him. We are going to go to Saint-Cloud on July 1,” said Kirk.

“There is a Group One race there over a mile and a half (Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud) so that is where we are going next.

“We were half-thinking about the Hardwicke but we decided to wait a big longer with him. It was a big performance the other day and he probably needs longer to get over that as it was his best run.”

“There are not that many entries so hopefully he can run well again.

Of the defeat at Epsom, he said: “It hasn’t got any better. It is good that he has gone and run like that and done what we eventually thought he would do.

“There are all those ifs and buts and when you got so close you think what if but that is the nature of it. It was really nice but disappointing all at once.

“He has come on for that run or at least I am nearly sure he has. Hopefully everything will go right next time.

“He has not won for a long time but that is because he has been dining at the top table for a long time. It would be nice to get his head in front once as he deserves it.”
