Catterick and Lingfield subject to morning inspections

Monday's meeting at Catterick is subject to a precautionary inspection at 8am.

Ground conditions at the North Yorkshire circuit are described as soft and with weather forecasts suggesting temperatures could dip to as low as minus 2C on Sunday night, clerk of the course Fiona Needham felt it prudent to call an early-morning check.

Needham said: "It is just precautionary. We're perfectly raceable at the moment, but forecasts have been a little bit out recently, which is making me a bit nervous."

She added: "If the forecasts are correct we should be fine, but we'll see what the morning brings."

Officials at Lingfield will also stage an 8am inspection on Monday ahead of the track's scheduled National Hunt meeting on Tuesday.

Conditions are heavy and with standing water in places, the track is currently not raceable.

Monday is forecast to be predominantly dry, but temperatures could dip below freezing on Sunday night and further rain is forecast for Tuesday morning.
