Ken Condon hoping stable star Success Days can go out on a high at Ascot

Success Days

Ken Condon feels Success Days is a "lively outsider" for the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot now the ground has come in his favour.

The grey, who enjoyed his finest hour in a Group Two at York earlier this season, is more than likely running his final race.

With Success Days a real mud-lover, Condon was ruing his luck earlier in the week with the ground looking set to be good, given the time of year.

However, while Ascot officials will not welcome the wet and windy weather, Condon is hoping the conditions will help to equal the playing field as his stable star comes up against some of the best 10-furlong horses in the world.

"The ground is coming in his favour at least and that will help him narrow the gap," said Condon."He's travelled over well and all seems good.

"I'd say he's a lively outsider. He might be a bit one-dimensional in that he likes to make the running and must have soft ground, but he's a grand little horse.

"The outside draw in 10 will give Shane (Foley) something to think about, but it might be that with the strong headwind they are talking about we might be better off getting some cover from the pacemaker.

"You can get some strange results in weather like this, look at the Sussex Stakes with Here Comes When beating Ribchester this year.

"He's an admirable horse who has been a star for us and I think this is his last race, so it would be some way to go out."
