Thesme seeking victorious finale in Listed event at Musselburgh

Thesme

Thesme will bid for a triumphant end to her career in Monday's EBF Musselburgh Fillies' Sprint Stakes at the Scottish track.

The venue hosts the additional card due to recent abandonments at Ayr and Hamilton, with the Listed fillies' race taking place after originally being scheduled for the Friday of the Ayr Gold Cup meeting.

Nigel Tinkler's Thesme was actually in action at Newbury when the Ayr meeting was supposed to be on, so the fact the race has been rescheduled, giving her one more chance to gain valuable black type before heading to the paddocks, is something of a bonus.

Simon Chappell, part of the Fools Gold Racing Syndicate who own Thesme, said: "It's fortunate for us they've put this on really.

"This will be her swansong, she'll be retired after this I'd have thought.

"She came within a head of a placing in a Group One (2016 Nunthorpe) and she would have been even more valuable then.

"She's been an amazing mare to own, we've had so much fun with her.

"Part of it is the way she races I think, she blasts off and it's "catch me if you can".

"Obviously I hope she can go out in style."

Tinkler said: "We're very grateful they've put the meeting on, it's a nice race with nice prize money for an additional meeting.

"It would be great if she could go out in style, I would think this is probably it as there's been some nice offers for her.

"She just hasn't had her conditions this summer, she needs fast ground to be seen at her best, on soft she doesn't quite get home.

"If we had four and a half furlong races, she'd be very good indeed."

Richard Fahey's The Wagon Wheel, Clem Fandango and Glenrowan Rose for Keith Dalgleish and the Michael Dods duo of Mabs Cross and Intense Romance also feature in the nine-runner race.
