Newcastle racecourse
Set in the 812-acre High Gosforth Park Estate and opened in 1882, the course is about five miles north of Newcastle city centre and is easily accessible.
This is very much a stayers' track with a galloping left-handed circuit of a mile and three-quarters. Best races are the Northumberland Plate in June, the `Fighting Fifth' Hurdle in November and the Eider Chase in February.
